Lavender & Twine Quilt-Along Starts June!

EPP diamonds

After finishing my Lavender & Twine quilt, with it’s soft pastel palette which I edited and unpicked several times before I was happy with it, I’m so enjoying making a quilt with a complete fabric collection! I’m using City of Dreams by Monika Forsberg and it’s so cheery! No choices, no worries about colours fitting, just cut up, baste, and stitch together at random. Do you have a favourite collection that needs cutting into? Maybe Lavender & Twine could be the quilt for you? Sew it with me from Mid June to October.

19th June - gathering fabric and sewing bouquets

First, we’ll choose our bouquet fabrics. They set the scene and direct us where to go next. I’ll share inspiration from my own versions, and from vintage quilts, we’ll cut into beloved fabric bundles or sort through our scraps, and then stitch away these happy, easy bouquets.

17th July - sewing the stem and background kites

After we’ve made our bouquets, it’s time to finalise our stem and background colours and sew these big centre stars. Then we’ll add the bouquets to the centres. I’ll show you a couple of different ways I construct this part of the block to help you balance colour and value.

14th August - sewing backgrounds and berries

This is when things start to get exciting! Sewing edge pieces isn’t always the fun part, but if you mix it up with adding them to your blocks, you really get to see them change from half made, star-like things into beautiful bouquets!

18th September - sewing the quilt top

Once our blocks are finished, we remove the papers, press and trim, and sew our tops together with sashing! I’ll share tips for trimming your blocks, working with half blocks, lining up and sewing your blocks for accuracy.

16th October - sharing our quilts!

Choose your backing, share ideas for quilting, and we’ll finish our quilts!

Iris Murdoch once said, “People from a planet without flowers would think we must be mad with joy the whole time to have such things about us!” I hope you bring more flowers into your world with Lavender & Twine.
