10 Stunning 'Good Things are Coming' Quilts to Inspire You

Good Things are Coming Quilt
Good Things are Coming Quilt was inspired by the striking center block of Red Sky at Night quilt, a vintage block inspired sampler quilt. Finishing at a colossal 19" square, these blocks stitch up fast and provide a stunning canvas for larger scale prints and solids alike.
So, we thought it would be fun to round up a few versions of Good Things are Coming quilt in the wild from across the internet. Whether you love fussy cutting, high or low contrast, a limited color palette, or a home for your most beloved scraps, you're sure to find inspiration in these beautiful quilts!
Big, Bold Prints Feel Right at Home - Alison of @aliro_in_stitches
Because these blocks finish at as HUGE 19" squares, the shapes are on the larger size for EPP shapes, but they're perfect for featuring some of those larger prints in your stash that often get chopped up with smaller pieces.
Alison has pulled out her gorgeous stash of Anna Maria Horner prints for her Good Things are Coming quilt, and they're just stunning, aren't they? We can't wait to see how the rest of this comes together!

Subtle Solids - Jodi Godfrey

While running the Red Sky at Night quilt club, inspiration struck Jodi to turn the Star of Bethlehem block, the very same block featured in Good Things are Coming quilt, into a pillow with these beautiful Sprout wovens by Fabelism.
She loved the fabric together so much that she went on to create an entire throw sized quilt to match! And, if you grab the 16 block paper piece set, you'll have enough papers to make an entire throw sized quilt plus over half a dozen cushions/pillows, perfect for gifting or seasonal stitching.

A Scrappy, but Limited Palette - Amanda of @amandalovestocreate
Amanda is known for her love of orange, and here she has paired it so beautifully with a range of aquas and pinks. The result is such a stunning effect!
While she intentionally grouped fabric by color, she also embraced a full range of fabrics for extra scrappy goodness. We love that she used the sashing as an opportunity to create a colorful frame between each block, making the whole quilt just sparkle!

High Contrast Background - Jodi Godfrey
Have you ever used a high contrast background? Jodi used such a comforting navy grunge to make her vibrant Good Things are Coming blocks really pop. While low volume backgrounds certainly have their place in the quilt world, this quilt definitely confirms that high contrast backgrounds have their place, too.

All the Scraps - Jodi Godfrey
Do your scrap bins threaten to overcome you? Good Things are Coming quilt is the perfect quilt for using up your scraps! Jodi used both colorful scraps as well as low volume scraps to make as much of a dent as she could in her scrap bins. (Spoiler: it didn't make nearly as big of a dent as she thought it would, but the quilt came out gorgeous, right?)

The Beauty of a Limited Palette - Sash of @indigo_elephant
This show stopping quilt made by Sash is essentially a three color quilt featuring navy, orange, and cream, but the fussy cutting, tone on tone background, and intricate sashing reveals the endless possibilities you can achieve with just three colors.

Bright and Beachy - Lisa of @stitchingthejourney
Sometimes fabric just begs to be shown off in a particular pattern, and this fabric fairly yelled to be turned into a Good Things are Coming quilt! I was inspired by a fabric bundle I purchased earlier this summer that reminded me of an iconic bit of summer: a beach ball.
The oversized blocks afforded the perfect opportunity to play with color/gradient while providing just the right amount of white space to let the colors do the talking. But, to keep things from getting too out of hand, I essentially laid out one block and then repeated it over and over based on the amount of fabric I had, substituting with scraps when I ran out of a particular fabric.
I can't wait to finish up these blocks that are coming together so quickly for how big they are! It has been the perfect quick fix buzz paired with minimal decision making.

Saying "No Thanks" to Sashing - Jessica of @jessicabree
While Good Things are Coming quilt blocks finish square and are therefore easily machine sewn together, Jessica Bree left out the sashing and opted for purely EPP in her version.
She also chose to make the most of her background fabrics in each block making the whole quilt feel rich and delightfully indulgent while offering quiet moments of rest scattered throughout. Did we mention the gorgeous fussy cutting that stands out beautifully in the house shapes?

A Rainbow of Possibilities - By @vintage_lily_makes
I love a good ombre or color order quilt, and this beautiful schematic by @vintage_lily_makes features a delightful rainbow of possibilities! The dark corner triangles and setting squares within the sashing really frame and anchor the blocks beautifully. We hope to see it come to life one day!

Scrappy Background, Minus Sashing - Vintage Stitcher Unknown
My husband and I enjoy perusing antique shops every once in a while, and when I saw this quilt draped over a quilt rack a few months ago, I had to have it. I'd never seen this block in a quilt out in the wild, and after working on Red Sky at Night and Good Things are Coming quilts, I felt so connected to this stitcher I'll never meet. I felt like I was able to honor her labor of love by giving it a home.
And you know what I love about it aside from the scrappy vintage pairings, the 80s color palette, and variegated background fabrics? I love the imperfections. It has wonky points and odd block placement. It has color pairings I'd probably never choose like not-quite-matching blues. It has wide binding and probably has polyester batting inside it. But, I love the soul that made it without ever needing to meet her. And, it reminds me that perfection isn't the end game. It reminds me that wonky, imperfect quilts keep people warm and cozy and brighten up gray living rooms as much as tidier, more technically accurate quilts do. Don't you think?
Of note, these blocks finish significantly smaller than our Good Things are Coming quilt blocks, so you could achieve a similar size quilt to this one with our 16 block queen size paper pieces set!
